Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised environment. The treatment is delivered in a specially designed chamber that increases atmospheric pressure to more than normal (usually 1.5 times atmospheric pressure at sea level). This enables the lungs to gather more oxygen than they would under normal pressure, which is then distributed throughout the body via the bloodstream.

How it Works
Under normal conditions, oxygen is primarily carried by red blood cells. In a hyperbaric chamber:
-
Increased Pressure: The chamber is pressurised to 1.5 atmospheres absolute (ATA), depending on the condition being treated.
-
Increased Oxygen Intake: The patient breathes 95% oxygen (compared to 21% in room air).
-
Plasma Oxygen Saturation: The higher pressure dissolves oxygen directly into the plasma (the liquid part of blood), tissues, and body fluids, significantly increasing oxygen availability even in areas with limited blood supply.
Benefits of HBOT
- Enhanced oxygen delivery
- Improved wound healing
- Infection control
- Reduced inflammation and swelling
- Neuro protection and brain health
- Faster recovery after surgery or injury
- Radiation damage repair
- Pain reduction
What to Expect During Your Appointment
During a hyperbaric oxygen therapy session, you can expect to enter a specialised chamber where you will breathe pure oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure.
The session lasts about 60 to 90 minutes, during which may feel a slight pressure in your ears, similar to what you experience during a flight.
After the session, it's common to feel rejuvenated and more energetic, as your body benefits from increased oxygen levels.
Comfortable, breathable clothing is recommended to wear when you are inside the chamber.

Interested in trying out Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
If you are interested in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, feel free to contact us to arrange a taster session. This session will include an assessment as to whether HBOT would work for you and your specific condition/s and we can answer any questions you may have before progressing to your personalised HBOT plan.

We use an expertly designed HBOT chamber from Oxygens, who construct their chambers in the UK which hold the UK CE marks. This ensures compliance with relevant standards. Their soft shell chambers are constructed from medical-grade, high-frequency welded TPU. All components – including oxygen tubing, valves, plugs, and seals – are also of medical grade.
